Man From North Carolina Charged With Impersonating Officer

A man from Burlington, North Carlina has been charged with the felony of impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Police officials say that Arnold Wayne Southern, 59, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. Sunday as the result of an investigation which began about three months ago, concerning an armed male suspect who was representing himself being a private security officer along Morningside Drive and several other locations across the city.

According to the police, Southern drove around in a white van wearing several uniforms with a security guard emblem, a duty belt with a gun and other items officers would typically carry. However, they said that Southern “was not and has not been a licensed private security officer.”

In one of the incidents that occurred, police said that Southern questioned people near the Eastbrooke Apartments about their reason for being in the area. The suspect had not been employed or asked by the property’s management to perform any such services on the premises, according to the police.

The suspect was taken to the Alamance County Jail where he has been being held under a $1,500 secured bond.
